New International Version (NIV) The Day and Hour Unknown 32 “But about that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. 33 Be on guard! Be alert[a]! You do not know when that time will come. 34 It’s like a man going away: He leaves his house and puts his servants in charge, each with their assigned task, and tells the one at the door to keep watch. 35 “Therefore keep watch because you do not know when the owner of the house will come back—whether in the evening, or at midnight, or when the rooster crows, or at dawn. 36 If he comes suddenly, do not let him find you sleeping. 37 What I say to you, I say to everyone: ‘Watch!’” Footnotes:
So in this part of the scripture Christ is talking to His disciples about the things to come, particularly His second coming. He is telling them to stay alert and ready for when He comes back. He relates the situation to that of a guy who takes a trip and tells his servants that he will be back and to make sure everything is ready for when he does return. Also, he tells one of them to keep watch at the door. Why? It is my understanding that this will be the guy who says, "Hey I think someone is coming by the gates, I think its the master. Do we have the room ready? Food? Drinks? Is everyone ready?" when his master comes back. How does this relate to us? Well for those of us going on the trip to Thailand, thats what we are going to help do. Christ expects the body to be ready and waiting, He has left us in charge of making sure that we are ready and that the entire house is prepared for Him. Going to all the world and telling people the good news is only half of the job. We need to make sure that we are in prime condition for when the master returns, and that the rest of the group is also ready. That every heart has room for Him to rest in. That the 'body' has word to eat and living water to drink, so that when He gets back we can have fellowship with Him.
