What is Chi Alpha?
Chi Alpha or XA is the college ministry branch of the Assemblies of God. Beginning in 1953 at Missouri State University and spreading to over 300 campuses in the United States. AG has developed multiple sister groups of XA in countries around the world. At XA we believe in Reconciling students to Christ, transforming the university, the marketplace, and the world.
We seek to introduce college and university students to an authentic relationship with Jesus Christ through prayer, worship, fellowship, discipleship and mission (XA five-fold approach). Why reach the campus? It is the most strategic mission field. A place where every religion, race, creed and culture is represented. Future leaders, doctors, engineers, teachers, and those that will drive our culture come through the campus. We have the opportunity to be Ambassadors of Christ to these people.
At Oklahoma State alone there are more than 100 nations represented, unlike American students who need to pass an exam and get a scholarship, these international students are the pride of their nation. Many are sent by their government to learn and return to be heads of departments for research and development. Imagine being able to share Christ with people from China, India, and Saudi - a task that otherwise would require a visa, a plane ticket, and the chance of imprisonment or punishment if not death.
But it isn't just us missionaries doing the work, XA is student led. Our students are trained and lead weekly Bible Studies and outreaches. They are the ones who lead the group into worship at our large group meetings, and help disciple their peers all while earning a secular degree that will help them reach the market place post graduation. We are gathered for a season and scattered for a lifetime, why not make the most of the season?
